A Beautiful Family Session on Historic Jones Street

Downtown Savannah Family Photography with Emily Moncus

There is something undeniably magical about downtown Savannah — and when it comes to family sessions, Jones Street is truly one of the most breathtaking backdrops in the city.

As a Savannah family photographer, I am always drawn to locations that feel timeless, elegant, and full of character. Jones Street offers all of that and more.

Why Jones Street Is Perfect for Family Photos

Often referred to as one of the most beautiful streets in America, Jones Street is everything you imagine when you think of historic Savannah.

Cobblestone paths.
Brick townhomes.
Iron railings.
Gas lanterns.
And, of course, the iconic oak trees draped in Spanish moss.

It feels romantic. Classic. Effortlessly Southern.

For this family session, Jones Street created the perfect blend of texture and warmth — allowing their connection to shine while Savannah’s historic charm framed every image.

The Beauty of Downtown Savannah Light

One of the reasons I love photographing families downtown is the way the light filters through the oak trees in the evening.

Soft. Golden. Glowing.

The Spanish moss creates natural movement and texture, while the historic brick adds depth and richness. Whether we’re walking along the sidewalk, sitting on the stone steps of a historic home, or gathering beneath the canopy of moss-covered trees, every corner feels intentional and beautiful.

A Session Focused on Connection

Family sessions with Emily Moncus Photography are never stiff or overly posed. Instead, they are guided and natural — filled with movement and real moments.

During this Jones Street session, we:

✨ Walked hand-in-hand beneath the oak trees
✨ Let the kids giggle and play between shots
✨ Captured cuddles on historic stone steps
✨ Embraced the in-between moments

Downtown Savannah provides the backdrop — but the heart of the session is always your connection.

Styling for a Historic Savannah Setting

Jones Street pairs beautifully with:

  • Soft neutrals

  • Light blues and creams

  • Muted earth tones

  • Flowy dresses

  • Classic, timeless pieces

The historic architecture naturally elevates your wardrobe, so keeping outfits simple and cohesive allows your family to stand out while the surroundings complement the look.

I guide every family through wardrobe styling to ensure everything feels polished, cohesive, and timeless.

Why Downtown Savannah Family Sessions Are So Special

There’s something meaningful about documenting your family in a place as iconic as Savannah.

Years from now, these images won’t just show how small your children once were — they will tell the story of where you were. The charm. The history. The Southern beauty of Jones Street.

Savannah offers a backdrop that never goes out of style.

Booking Your Downtown Savannah Family Session

If you’re looking for a Savannah family photographer and love the idea of timeless portraits in the heart of downtown, Jones Street is truly one of the most stunning options available.

These sessions are especially beautiful in the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the light is golden.

Your children will grow. The seasons will change. But these moments — captured beneath the moss-covered oaks of Jones Street — will remain forever.

Timeless Posed Newborn Photography in Savannah, Georgia

By Savannah Newborn Photographer Emily Moncus

There is nothing more fleeting than those first days with your newborn. The tiny fingers. The curled toes. The way they naturally tuck into those sweet, womb-like poses. It’s a season that passes in the blink of an eye — and one that deserves to be preserved beautifully and safely.

As a Savannah, Georgia newborn photographer, Emily Moncus specializes in posed newborn photography, creating timeless, heirloom-quality portraits for families throughout Savannah and the surrounding Coastal Georgia areas.

What Is Posed Newborn Photography?

Posed newborn photography is a carefully styled and gently guided session designed to highlight your baby’s tiny details in a safe, controlled studio environment.

Unlike lifestyle photography, posed sessions focus on:

  • Softly curled, womb-like poses

  • Beautifully wrapped newborn setups

  • Neutral, timeless color palettes

  • Classic prop styling

  • Close-up detail images

  • Family and sibling portraits

Each pose is done with intention, patience, and newborn safety as the top priority.

A Luxury Studio Experience in Savannah, GA

Emily Moncus Photography offers a professional newborn studio conveniently located for Savannah families. The studio is designed to be:

  • Warm and cozy for baby

  • Clean and minimal for timeless images

  • Fully stocked with wraps, headbands, props, and textures

  • Relaxing for parents

You don’t have to bring anything except your baby. Every detail — from wraps to layers to color coordination — is prepared before you even arrive.

Parents can sit back, relax, and even rest while Emily carefully poses and photographs your newborn.

Why Savannah Families Choose Emily Moncus

Savannah is known for its charm, history, and beauty — and your newborn portraits should feel just as timeless.

Families across Savannah, Pooler, Richmond Hill, Tybee Island, and surrounding areas trust Emily Moncus because she offers:

✔️ Extensive experience in newborn posing
✔️ Safety-first techniques
✔️ Gentle baby-led workflow
✔️ Neutral, timeless editing
✔️ Clear pricing with no surprises
✔️ A full-service, guided experience

Every session is carefully planned to create a cohesive, classic gallery that will never go out of style.

When to Book Your Savannah Newborn Session

The best time to photograph a newborn in posed portraits is between 5–14 days old. During this window, babies are still sleepy and naturally curly, making those sweet, tucked poses possible.

Because of limited availability, Savannah newborn sessions are best reserved during your second trimester to ensure a spot on the calendar.

Once baby arrives, we confirm your official session date.

What to Expect During Your Session

Newborn sessions typically last 2–3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and gentle transitions between poses.

Emily works through a structured posing flow that may include:

  • Wrapped poses

  • Prop setups

  • Table posing on soft, neutral layers

  • Macro detail shots

  • Parent and sibling images

Every baby is different, and sessions are always adjusted based on your little one’s comfort and needs.

Creating Heirloom Artwork for Your Family

These images are not just for social media. They are meant to be printed, framed, and passed down.

From soft neutral palettes to classic compositions, posed newborn photography creates artwork that feels elegant and enduring — the kind you will proudly display in your Savannah home for decades.

Serving Families Throughout Savannah, Georgia

If you are expecting and looking for a Savannah newborn photographer who specializes in posed newborn photography, Emily Moncus would love to document this beautiful chapter for your family.

Those tiny details will never be this small again — but your memories can last forever.

Dreamy Downtown Maternity Sessions in Savannah, Georgia

With Savannah Maternity Photographer Emily Moncus

There is something absolutely magical about maternity sessions in downtown Savannah. The oak-lined streets, historic charm, and soft coastal light create the most romantic backdrop to celebrate this fleeting season of motherhood.

As a Savannah maternity photographer, I truly believe there is no place quite like downtown — especially when we pair Forsyth Park and the beautiful Fragrant Garden together for one stunning session.

And when you add in access to over 200 gowns from my carefully curated maternity client closet? It becomes an experience you’ll never forget.

Why Downtown Savannah Is Perfect for Maternity Photos

Downtown Savannah offers a timeless elegance that simply can’t be replicated.

From the iconic fountain at Forsyth Park to the tucked-away charm of the Fragrant Garden, every corner feels romantic, refined, and full of Southern grace.

Forsyth Park

The sweeping oak trees draped in Spanish moss, the historic white fountain, and the open green space create variety within one location. Whether we’re capturing soft, editorial-style portraits in front of the fountain or romantic, backlit images under the mossy canopy, Forsyth Park delivers classic Savannah beauty every time.

The Fragrant Garden

Just steps away, the Fragrant Garden offers something softer and more intimate. The iron gates, seasonal blooms, textured brick, and quiet pathways feel like a secret garden tucked into the heart of the city. It’s perfect for creating delicate, feminine images that highlight the beauty of motherhood.

Together, these two locations allow us to create a gallery that feels both iconic and deeply personal.

A Luxury Experience with 200+ Gown Options

One of the things my clients love most about their maternity session is access to my exclusive maternity client closet.

With over 200 carefully selected gowns, you’ll never have to stress about what to wear. My collection includes:

  • Flowing chiffon gowns

  • Fitted lace dresses

  • Dramatic statement pieces

  • Soft, neutral classics

  • Romantic textures and layers

  • Options flattering for every stage and body type

Whether you envision something soft and ethereal blowing in the Savannah breeze or a sleek, fitted gown highlighting your beautiful baby bump, we will choose the perfect look for your session.

I help style every detail — from dress selection to coordinating colors for partners or children — so your final images feel cohesive, polished, and timeless.

The Style You Can Expect

My approach to maternity photography is natural, romantic, and connection-driven.

You can expect:

✨ Soft, flattering posing guidance
✨ Movement-based prompts for natural emotion
✨ Gentle direction so you never feel awkward
✨ Timeless editing that will never go out of style
✨ A relaxed, enjoyable experience

Downtown Savannah’s light pairs beautifully with neutral tones and soft pastels, creating images that feel both elegant and effortless.

These are portraits that will look just as beautiful 20 years from now as they do today.

When to Schedule Your Maternity Session

The ideal time for maternity photos is between 28–34 weeks. Your bump is beautifully round, but you’re still comfortable enough to move around Forsyth Park and the Fragrant Garden with ease.

Savannah’s golden hour light in the evenings is especially stunning — warm, glowing, and romantic.

Why This Season Deserves to Be Documented

Pregnancy is powerful. It’s transformative. It’s emotional.

And yet it passes so quickly.

There is something incredibly meaningful about standing beneath the Spanish moss in Forsyth Park, wearing a flowing gown, feeling your baby move — and knowing you are about to meet the love of your life.

These sessions aren’t just about photos. They’re about honoring this chapter.

Now Offering Lifestyle Newborn Sessions in Studio

Emily Moncus Photography | Savannah, GA

There is something so incredibly special about those first few days with your baby. The way they curl naturally into you. The way they fit perfectly against your chest. The way time feels both frozen and fleeting all at once.

I am beyond excited to officially share that Emily Moncus Photography is now offering Lifestyle Newborn Sessions in my Savannah, GA studio.

For years, I have specialized in beautifully posed newborn portraits, and those timeless images will always have my heart. But there is something uniquely emotional about lifestyle photography — and after creating sessions like the ones you see here, I knew I wanted to offer this option to more families.

What Is a Studio Lifestyle Newborn Session?

Lifestyle newborn photography focuses on connection over perfection.

Instead of intricate posing and props, these sessions are centered around:

  • Natural interaction

  • Soft, organic posing

  • Real connection between baby and parents

  • Light-filled, neutral spaces

  • Emotion-driven imagery

In the images above, you can see exactly what I mean.

Mama lying gently beside her baby on crisp white bedding, gazing down at him with the kind of love only a mother understands. The soft gray tones of her dress paired with baby’s simple wrap create a timeless, cohesive look without distraction. Nothing feels forced. Nothing feels overly styled. It simply feels real.

Another image captures mom holding her newborn close, kissing his forehead — a quiet, intimate moment frozen forever. These are the moments that pass too quickly in real life, but through lifestyle photography, we preserve them exactly as they felt.

And when dad joins in? Pure magic. Watching him lean in protectively as mom cradles their baby creates depth and storytelling that feels authentic and heartfelt.

Why Offer Lifestyle in Studio?

Savannah families often love the idea of lifestyle sessions at home — but not everyone feels ready to host a session just days after giving birth. That’s exactly why I created this option.

My Savannah studio is designed to feel:

  • Bright and airy

  • Neutral and calming

  • Soft and minimal

  • Timeless in design

White bedding, soft drapery, clean lines, and beautiful natural light create the perfect environment to mimic that cozy at-home feel — without the stress of preparing your home.

You get the intimacy of lifestyle photography with the comfort and simplicity of a professionally designed space.

The Style You Can Expect

From the images shared:

✨ Soft, neutral color palettes (creams, whites, gentle grays)
✨ Relaxed posing on a bed setup
✨ Wrapped baby for comfort and security
✨ Genuine connection and emotion
✨ Parents interacting naturally rather than looking stiff or overly posed

These sessions are baby-led and relaxed. Your little one can stay wrapped and cozy, nestled safely on a studio bed setup or in your arms. We focus on connection — forehead kisses, gentle touches, quiet smiles.

It’s less about perfect positioning and more about perfect moments.

Who Is This Perfect For?

Lifestyle studio newborn sessions are ideal for:

  • Parents who want natural, connection-based images

  • Families who love light and airy aesthetics

  • Those who want less prop-heavy portraits

  • Moms who want to be in the frame in a relaxed, beautiful way

  • Families who prefer not to host an in-home session

And if you’re drawn to both posed and lifestyle? We can absolutely blend the two.

Still the Same Safety & Experience You Expect

As with every session at Emily Moncus Photography, safety is always my top priority. Even in lifestyle sessions, your newborn’s comfort and security come first.

You will still receive:

  • Guidance on wardrobe styling

  • A fully prepped studio space

  • A relaxed, baby-led pace

  • Clear pricing with no surprise fees

  • A luxury experience from booking to gallery delivery

Why This Feels So Special to Me

There is something incredibly powerful about capturing a mother looking down at her newborn in quiet awe. The softness. The vulnerability. The strength.

These sessions feel slower. More intimate. More emotional.

And in a season of life that moves so quickly, that softness matters.

I am so excited to offer this new lifestyle studio option to my Savannah families and cannot wait to document these beautiful first chapters for you.

If you're expecting and want to preserve these fleeting moments in a light-filled, timeless way, I would love to welcome you into the studio.

With love,

Questions to Ask Your Newborn Photographer About Safety – Advice from Emily Moncus Photography in Savannah, GA

Your newborn’s first photography session is about more than just beautiful images — it’s about protecting your baby’s comfort, security, and well-being. Newborn photography is a specialized art form, and not all photographers have the training and experience to safely pose and handle a newborn.

That’s why knowing what to ask before you book is so important. At Emily Moncus Photography in Savannah, GA, I make safety the top priority in every session, and I’m passionate about educating parents so they can choose a photographer who will do the same.

newborn baby girl savannah

Here are essential safety questions to ask your newborn photographer before saying yes to your session.

1. Do You Have Experience and Training in Newborn Safety?

A qualified newborn photographer understands baby anatomy, safe posing techniques, and how to spot signs of distress. Look for someone who has invested in training specific to newborn safety — not just photography in general.

At my Savannah studio, I’ve completed extensive newborn safety workshops and continuously update my skills to ensure your little one is always handled with the utmost care.

2. How Do You Ensure Babies Are Supported in Poses?

Some of the most popular newborn poses — like “froggy” or head-on-hands — are actually composites, meaning the baby is never balancing alone. Multiple images are taken with a supporting hand in place, then edited together for the final result.

If your photographer can’t explain how they safely achieve those poses, that’s a red flag. I always use safe posing techniques and never place a baby in a position that could cause discomfort or harm.

3. Will My Baby Ever Be Left Unattended?

The answer should always be a firm “no.” Your baby should have an adult within arm’s reach at all times.

In my sessions, either I or a parent’s hand is always nearby for support. Safety is never sacrificed for the sake of a shot.

4. How Do You Keep the Studio Clean and Comfortable?

Newborns have delicate immune systems, so a clean, sanitized space is essential. Ask how often wraps, props, and blankets are washed, and whether the studio temperature is kept warm enough for a comfortable session.

At Emily Moncus Photography, every prop and textile is freshly laundered, and my studio is kept at a cozy temperature to help babies relax and settle.

5. What Happens If My Baby Doesn’t Like a Certain Pose?

A good newborn photographer will follow the baby’s lead. If your baby resists a position, they’ll move on rather than force the pose.

I work entirely on baby’s terms. If a certain setup isn’t working, we simply switch to something that keeps them happy and safe.

Why These Questions Matter
Your newborn will only be this little for a short time, but their safety lasts a lifetime. By asking these questions and choosing a photographer who values safe practices — like Emily Moncus Photography — you can feel confident that your baby will be cared for and comfortable during their very first photo session.

If you’re in or near Savannah, GA, and want timeless newborn portraits created with the highest safety standards, I’d love to welcome you into my studio. Together, we can capture these fleeting days while keeping your little one safe and snug.

Posed Newborn Photography Safety – Why It Matters & How Emily Moncus Photography Protects Your Little One

Welcoming your newborn is one of the most precious moments in life, and capturing those early days through photography is a gift you’ll treasure forever. But when it comes to posed newborn photography, beauty should never come at the expense of safety.

As a parent, your number one priority is your baby’s well-being — and it should be your photographer’s too. That’s why choosing a professional who understands and practices newborn safety is absolutely essential.

savannah newborn photographer

Why Safety in Posed Newborn Photography is Non-Negotiable
Newborns are incredibly delicate. Their muscles, joints, and necks aren’t fully developed, which means certain poses require special handling — and sometimes composite editing — to ensure the baby is never placed in an unsafe position. A safe newborn session isn’t about “getting the shot no matter what.” It’s about working within the baby’s natural flexibility and comfort, always prioritizing their needs over the pose.

Professional newborn photographers who practice safety:

  • Always support the baby’s head and neck.

  • Use spotters (often a parent) for certain poses.

  • Never force a baby into a position they resist.

  • Work in a warm, comfortable environment to help the baby relax.

  • Use clean, sanitized props and wraps.

How Emily Moncus Photography Ensures a Safe Session
In my Savannah, GA studio, safety is at the heart of every newborn session. Before we begin, I walk parents through the process, explaining how each pose will be done and the precautions taken to keep their baby secure.

For poses that appear to have the baby balancing or holding their head up, I use composite photography — merging multiple images in post-editing so a supporting hand is always there during the actual shot. Your baby is never left unsupported or unattended.

I also follow the baby’s cues closely. If they show signs of discomfort, we move on to another pose or wrap style. Newborn sessions should be peaceful and stress-free, with plenty of breaks for feeding and cuddles.

savannah georgia photographer

Why Photographer Choice Matters
Not all photographers who offer newborn sessions have formal safety training. That’s why it’s so important to ask about their process before booking. Choosing a newborn photographer who values safety — like Emily Moncus Photography — means you can relax knowing your baby is in experienced, caring hands.

Your newborn will only be this small for a short time. With safe, professional posed photography, you can preserve these early days in beautiful images without ever compromising your little one’s well-being.

If you’re looking for a Savannah newborn photographer who specializes in safe, timeless portraits, I’d love to welcome you into my studio and create images you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Studio Maternity Photography in Savannah, GA – Celebrating the Big Sister-to-Be

Welcoming a second baby is such a beautiful and exciting time, but it can also bring a swirl of emotions — especially when you have an only child who is about to become a big brother or big sister. Many parents quietly carry a bit of guilt during this transition, wondering how their firstborn will adjust, if they’ll feel left out, or how life will change.

Let me reassure you: those feelings are completely normal. They’re a sign of how deeply you love your child and how much you care about making this new chapter a positive one for them. One of the most meaningful ways to ease that transition is to include your older child in every milestone — and your maternity photos are the perfect place to start.

sibling studio maternity photos

A Studio Session Full of Connection
Recently, in my Savannah, Georgia studio, I had the privilege of photographing a glowing mama, her husband, and their sweet daughter — soon to be a big sister. The session wasn’t just about capturing her beautiful baby bump, but also about celebrating the special bond between mother and daughter before it grows to include a new little one.

In the calm, controlled environment of the studio, we focused on soft lighting, timeless backdrops, and natural interactions. Some of my favorite moments were when her daughter gently rested her hand on mom’s belly, whispered “I love you” to the baby inside, and giggled when she felt a tiny kick. Those expressions — pure joy, curiosity, and love — are priceless.

sibling maternity savannah ga

Why Including Siblings Matters
For an only child, becoming a sibling is a big life change. Involving them in maternity portraits sends such a powerful message: You are an important part of this journey. It helps them feel seen, valued, and connected to their new role. When they look back on these photos years from now, they won’t just see mom expecting — they’ll see themselves woven into the story from the very beginning.

studio maternity savannah

A Gift for the Whole Family
Studio maternity sessions with siblings aren’t just about pretty pictures (though you’ll definitely get those). They’re about creating an experience your child will remember. Letting them pose with you, suggest ideas, or even help “hold” the baby bump can turn the photo shoot into a celebration for the whole family.

At Emily Moncus Photography, I believe in capturing not just how this chapter looks, but how it feels — the excitement, the tenderness, and the love that already surrounds your growing family. My Savannah studio is designed to make parents and children feel comfortable so those real, heartfelt moments can shine through in your images.

If you’re expecting and want to include your older child in your maternity photos, I’d love to help you create portraits that honor both your new baby and the incredible big sibling they’re about to have. Let’s tell your family’s story — together.

Posed Newborn Twin Photography in Savannah, GA – Capturing the Sweet Bond of a Boy and Girl Twin

There’s something extra magical about photographing twins — two tiny new lives beginning their journey side by side, already sharing a bond that will last a lifetime. Recently in my Savannah, Georgia studio, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful newborn boy and girl, just days old, for a posed newborn twin photography session.

From the moment their parents arrived, I could feel the love and pride radiating from the whole family. These sweet twins were the perfect little models, settling into gentle poses and snuggling together in the most heart-melting ways.

twin newborn photography

Why Posed Newborn Twin Photography is So Special
When photographing twins, the goal is to capture not only their individual features but also their connection. From tiny fingers intertwined to the way they naturally curl into each other, twins often bring a sense of peaceful harmony to their portraits. For these two, I incorporated soft, neutral backdrops that kept the focus on their delicate expressions and sweet details.

As a Savannah newborn photographer, I love styling twin sessions with complementary wraps, headbands, and bonnets that highlight each baby’s personality while still keeping the images cohesive. For these boy-and-girl twins, we chose a blend of gentle blush tones for her and soft blues for him, along with timeless cream and beige sets that will never go out of style.

Capturing Endurance & Love: Downtown Savannah Maternity Session

Every once in a while, a session comes along that reminds me why I do what I do. This maternity session, set in the heart of historic downtown Savannah, Georgia, is one of those unforgettable moments. The cobblestone streets, the ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss, and the golden evening light created a dreamy backdrop—but what truly made this session magical was the story behind the couple I was honored to photograph.

High school sweethearts, they’ve been together through every season of life. From late-night study sessions to first jobs, cross-country moves, and everything in between, their bond only grew stronger. But nothing tested their love and strength quite like their journey through infertility. For years, they faced heartbreak, uncertainty, and countless “what ifs.” Yet, through every setback, they held tightly to each other and to their dream of becoming parents.

Standing with them in downtown Savannah, capturing the gentle way he looked at her baby bump, the joy in her eyes, the way their hands instinctively found each other’s—there was an unmistakable sense of gratitude and quiet victory in every frame. These photos weren’t just about pregnancy; they were a celebration of endurance, love, and faith fulfilled.

Savannah’s downtown charm perfectly echoed their story. The timeless architecture mirrored the longevity of their relationship, while the winding alleyways and unexpected blooms felt symbolic of the twists and turns their journey had taken—ultimately leading to this beautiful, long-awaited chapter.

I believe every maternity session should reflect more than just a baby bump. It should tell a story—of love, of family, of hope. And this couple’s story deserves to be told a thousand times over.

To all the parents-to-be still holding onto hope, let this serve as a reminder: your story is still unfolding, and beautiful things can still be born from the hardest seasons.

Are you ready to tell your story through timeless imagery in Savannah’s most beautiful locations?

Golden Hour Magic: A Dreamy Maternity Session on Tybee Island Beach

There’s something undeniably magical about a maternity session at the beach—especially when it’s on Tybee Island, just outside the charming city of Savannah, Georgia. With its soft sands, warm sea breeze, and breathtaking sunsets, Tybee offers the perfect natural canvas for capturing the beauty and strength of motherhood.

This maternity session was nothing short of radiant. As the sun dipped low, casting golden hues across the horizon, the beach became a glowing paradise. The expecting mother, dressed in a flowing gown that caught the wind just right, stood barefoot at the water’s edge, her hands cradling her growing belly. The gentle waves rolled in and out like nature’s own lullaby, adding a rhythmic calm to the entire experience.

One of the most striking parts of shooting on Tybee Island is how the light reflects off the water and sand—giving every photo a soft, ethereal glow. Whether it was close-up shots of quiet moments or wide-angle views that showcased the vast sky and shoreline, each frame told a story of anticipation, love, and new beginnings.

We also explored the dunes, where tall grasses swayed gently and provided a beautifully textured contrast to the smooth beach. The natural elements of Tybee created a stunning balance between elegance and wildness—perfect for reflecting the journey into motherhood.

This session wasn’t just about taking beautiful photos; it was about celebrating a remarkable chapter in life. The connection between mother and child, even before birth, was evident in every frame. And what better place to celebrate that connection than on one of Georgia’s most picturesque beaches?

If you're considering a maternity shoot, Tybee Island offers the ideal backdrop—serene, timeless, and full of quiet wonder. Whether you’re a local or visiting Savannah, don’t overlook this dreamy location for preserving one of the most special seasons of your life.

Fort Pulaski Maternity Session in Savannah, Georgia

Fort Pulaski National Monument, located just outside of Savannah, Georgia, is a breathtaking location for maternity photos, especially between 27 to 34 weeks of pregnancy. The historic fort, set against the backdrop of beautiful coastal marshes and ancient live oaks, offers a unique blend of natural beauty, dramatic architecture, and historical charm, making it an ideal choice for capturing the glowing anticipation of motherhood.

Fort Pulaski Maternity

Why Fort Pulaski is Perfect for Maternity Photos

  1. Historic Charm and Iconic Architecture: Fort Pulaski is a magnificent example of 19th-century military architecture, with its towering brick walls, arched doorways, and expansive drawbridges. The striking contrast between the imposing fort and the delicate beauty of pregnancy creates powerful imagery. The fort’s intricate stonework and gun emplacements add depth and character to your photos, giving them a timeless, almost cinematic feel. These architectural elements can create stunning compositions, whether you’re framed by a historic archway or standing near one of the fort’s scenic overlooks.

  2. Natural Beauty: Beyond the fort’s architecture, Fort Pulaski’s surroundings are equally photogenic. The park is home to lush marshlands, tidal creeks, and expansive grassy fields. The natural light here, especially during the golden hours of early morning or late afternoon, is soft and flattering, ideal for highlighting the warmth and glow of pregnancy. The towering trees, Spanish moss hanging from their limbs, and vibrant wildlife provide a serene, picturesque setting that contrasts beautifully with the structured, man-made elements of the fort.

  3. Variety of Settings: Fort Pulaski offers a range of settings within the park, so you can create diverse looks for your maternity shoot. Whether you want to feature the grandeur of the fort itself, the tranquility of the surrounding salt marshes, or a more intimate setting among the live oaks, you’ll have multiple options to explore. You could start with photos in front of the fort’s impressive exterior, move to the ramparts for elevated views, and then finish with softer, nature-filled shots down by the water’s edge.

  4. Peaceful and Spacious Atmosphere: The fort’s expansive grounds provide ample space to move around and find secluded spots for a more private, intimate shoot. Fort Pulaski is also not usually as crowded as some other tourist sites, so you won’t have to worry about large crowds interfering with your shoot. The peaceful, relaxed environment allows you to focus on the experience and capture authentic, natural moments without the distractions that can come with more tourist-heavy locations.

  5. Perfect Timing for 27–34 Weeks: The window between 27 to 34 weeks is ideal for maternity photos, as you’re likely to have a beautiful, noticeable baby bump without being too far into the later stages of pregnancy. At this stage, you may still feel more energetic and comfortable, allowing you to move freely and comfortably during your shoot. The slightly cooler weather in the spring or fall months, when Fort Pulaski is most pleasant, can also make it easier to feel at ease during your session.

Planning Your Maternity Photo Shoot at Fort Pulaski

  • Best Times for Photos: As with most outdoor shoots, the best times for maternity photos are during the golden hours—early morning or late afternoon—when the sun is low and casts a warm, flattering light. The park is open year-round, but during these times, you can also avoid the midday heat or strong sun. Be sure to check the park hours to make sure you have enough time for a leisurely shoot.

  • Wardrobe Considerations: For a setting as dramatic and timeless as Fort Pulaski, consider wearing outfits that complement the surroundings. Soft, flowy dresses in neutral tones like ivory, soft pinks, or pastels work well with the natural landscape. If you prefer something a little more formal, a flowing gown or an elegant maternity dress can create a striking contrast against the fort’s rugged textures. Accessories like a flower crown, delicate jewelry, or a shawl can add an extra layer of femininity and charm.

  • What to Bring: Besides the usual essentials (like water and snacks), consider bringing along a few props or personal touches that help tell your story, such as a pair of tiny shoes, a sonogram image, or a special item from your pregnancy journey. If you plan to include your partner or other family members, coordinating outfits or incorporating family keepsakes into the shoot can add a deeper emotional connection to the photos.

  • Permits and Fees: Fort Pulaski is a National Monument, so there may be a fee for entrance or photography. If you plan to hire a professional photographer, be sure to check whether a photography permit is required. This will ensure that your session goes smoothly and that you’re following the park’s rules. It’s a good idea to check these details ahead of time to avoid any last-minute surprises.

Fort Pulaski Maternity Photos

Conclusion

Fort Pulaski National Monument provides an extraordinary setting for maternity photos, blending history, natural beauty, and tranquil atmosphere in a way that few places can. Between 27 to 34 weeks of pregnancy, you’re at the perfect stage to celebrate the beauty of your journey, and Fort Pulaski offers the ideal backdrop for this special time. The combination of historic fortifications, lush landscapes, and serene marsh views allows you to capture stunning, memorable images that will forever reflect the excitement and anticipation of welcoming a new life. Whether you prefer dramatic, architectural shots or soft, nature-infused imagery, Fort Pulaski is sure to provide a one-of-a-kind maternity photo shoot experience.

Capturing Maternity Magic at Fort McAllister

Fort McAllister Maternity Photos

Fort McAllister, located in Richmond Hill, Georgia, is an excellent choice for maternity photos, particularly between 27 to 34 weeks of pregnancy. This historic state park, known for its picturesque scenery and rich Civil War history, offers a blend of natural beauty and rustic charm that makes it a unique and stunning backdrop for capturing such a special moment.

Why Fort McAllister is Ideal for Maternity Photos

  1. Scenic Beauty: The park is surrounded by scenic views of tidal salt marshes, oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and lush greenery. These natural elements create a peaceful, serene atmosphere that adds a timeless quality to maternity photos. The soft, golden light that filters through the trees during the golden hour can enhance the warmth and tenderness of the photographs.

  2. Diverse Locations: Fort McAllister offers a variety of landscapes to suit different photography styles. You can capture intimate moments near the historical fortifications, or take advantage of the surrounding marshland and wooded trails. The park’s blend of open fields, rustic structures, and dense nature gives you flexibility to choose the setting that best represents your style and vision.

  3. Rustic Charm: The fort's old brick ruins and historic buildings provide a perfect juxtaposition to the soft, glowing energy of pregnancy. These structures give the photos a vintage feel, adding character and depth to the images. If you love the idea of combining history with the beauty of motherhood, Fort McAllister delivers an ideal setting.

  4. Privacy: Since the park is relatively quiet and not as crowded as some other tourist spots, it can offer a more intimate, private environment for maternity photo shoots. This allows you to feel relaxed and at ease, helping you to capture authentic, candid moments. Having a serene setting ensures you're not rushed or distracted by large crowds, allowing you to focus solely on the experience.

  5. Timely Access to Beautiful Lighting: The timing of 27 to 34 weeks is perfect for maternity photos. During this window, you’re typically showing a beautiful baby bump, but you might not be as physically uncomfortable as you might be later in pregnancy. The golden hours (early morning or late afternoon) provide the best light at Fort McAllister, offering soft, flattering tones that are ideal for maternity photography.

Outdoor Maternity Photographer Savannah

Planning the Shoot at Fort McAllister

  • Best Time for Photos: The best times for a shoot are early morning or late afternoon when the sun is lower in the sky. This helps avoid harsh midday light, and the golden hour light brings out the warmth and glow in your photos. The park is also less crowded at these times, giving you more space and time to work with the photographer.

  • Wardrobe Tips: Depending on the season, consider light, flowing fabrics that will blend well with the natural surroundings. Soft pastel colors, whites, and earth tones complement the landscape beautifully. A more formal dress or boho-style gown can give your photos an elegant or whimsical feel, while casual outfits can keep the shoot comfortable and relaxed.

  • Permits: If you're planning to take professional photos, make sure to check with the park about any necessary photography permits or rules about where you can shoot. It’s always good to be prepared and respectful of the location’s guidelines.

  • Bring a Support Person: Maternity shoots often involve waiting for the right lighting or angle, so having a partner, friend, or family member accompany you can help you stay relaxed and comfortable throughout the process. They can also help with props, adjusting your outfit, or simply making you feel at ease.

Conclusion

Choosing Fort McAllister for maternity photos between 27 to 34 weeks offers the perfect balance of history, natural beauty, and peaceful privacy. Whether you're looking for classic, rustic, or nature-inspired photos, the park provides a stunning and versatile setting. The combination of beautiful landscapes, historic elements, and serene surroundings will help capture the magic and anticipation of your pregnancy journey.

A Faith-Filled Journey: Celebrating Motherhood in Hattiesburg

Some sessions are more than just photography—they’re an opportunity to witness the beauty of life, love, and faith. That was exactly how I felt when this radiant mama traveled from Biloxi, Mississippi, to my studio in Hattiesburg for her maternity session.

Her story, her faith, and the joy she radiated during our time together left a lasting impression on my heart. It’s moments like these that remind me of the privilege it is to capture such transformative times in people’s lives.

A Journey of Faith

From the moment she walked into my studio, there was an unmistakable glow about her. Of course, part of it was that classic pregnancy radiance, but it was more than that—it was the light of her faith and love for the little one she’s carrying.

As we chatted during her session, she shared the most beautiful story: God had told her she was having a daughter before she even knew the gender. Hearing her speak about the deep connection she already has with her baby girl was nothing short of inspiring. Her faith in God’s plan and the way she embraces this new chapter of motherhood were so moving.

In every pose and every image, you can see the love and gratitude she carries for this precious blessing.

Capturing the Glow

For this session, we focused on creating timeless, elegant images that highlighted her beauty and strength as an expectant mother. Studio sessions are wonderful for maternity photography because they allow us to control every element—the lighting, the background, and the overall mood.

We selected a soft, neutral color palette that complemented her glowing skin and the serenity she exuded. Flowing fabrics and delicate details added a touch of grace, making every image feel like a work of art.

It’s always a joy to see a mom-to-be embrace her beauty and confidence during a session. Pregnancy is such a miraculous and fleeting time, and capturing it in a way that feels both personal and empowering is so important to me.

A Baby Girl on the Way

As she spoke about her daughter, it was clear just how much love is already waiting for this little one. I could see the excitement in her eyes as she imagined the day she’d finally hold her baby girl in her arms.

Her faith-filled story reminded me of the power of motherhood—it’s a journey that begins long before the baby is born. From the moment she knew she was carrying this child, she began pouring love, prayers, and hopes into her little girl’s life.

I have no doubt that this baby will grow up surrounded by endless love, faith, and beauty, just like her mother.

The Beauty of Faith in Photography

As a photographer, I’m often reminded of how deeply personal these sessions can be. It’s not just about the photos; it’s about capturing the emotions, the stories, and the connections that make each family unique.

Hearing this mom’s story of faith and trust in God’s plan was a reminder of how special these moments are. It’s an honor to be trusted with such an important part of someone’s journey, and I’m so grateful to be able to document memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Anticipating Her Arrival

I can’t wait to meet this sweet baby girl and photograph her newborn session when she arrives. If she’s anything like her mother, she will be an absolute blessing to everyone who knows her. I already know she’ll be stunning—inside and out.

To this beautiful mama: thank you for making the trip to Hattiesburg and for allowing me to be a part of this special time in your life. Your faith and love are an inspiration, and I feel so blessed to have met you.

For anyone considering a maternity session, let this be your reminder that every story is worth celebrating. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, these moments are fleeting, and they deserve to be captured with care and intention.

The Joy of Capturing Precious Newborn Moments: A Memorable Workshop Experience

There’s something truly magical about working with newborns—those fleeting, tender moments where they are their tiniest, purest selves. As a photographer, I am constantly reminded of how lucky I am to freeze these moments in time, creating memories that families will cherish for generations. One such recent experience left an indelible mark on my heart and inspired me to share the story here.

The Perfect Little Model

This sweet little newborn was an absolute dream to work with. From the moment his mom placed him in my arms, I could feel the calmness and trust between us. It’s moments like these that remind me why I adore newborn photography. His delicate features, the soft curls of his hair, and the way he peacefully dozed off during the session were simply enchanting.

What made this experience even more special was that his mom had a personal connection to my work. She follows me on social media and keeps up with my latest projects. When she saw my workshop model announcement for a Newborn and Maternity session in Savannah, Georgia, she didn’t hesitate to reach out. I am so grateful that she did because her little boy turned out to be one of the sweetest and cutest babies I’ve ever worked with.

A Workshop to Remember

Hosting workshops is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my photography career. Not only do I get to share my passion and techniques with other photographers, but I also get to meet amazing families and capture priceless moments. This particular workshop in Savannah was a highlight of the year.

The charm of Savannah, with its historic streets and serene vibe, served as the perfect backdrop for the workshop. Inside the studio, we created a warm and inviting atmosphere to ensure both the baby and mom felt comfortable. As photographers, we know that a relaxed environment is key to capturing those natural, timeless shots.

This little one was the epitome of serenity. He settled into every pose with such ease, making it possible for the attendees to focus on learning everything from lighting techniques to composition without feeling rushed. Watching the other photographers light up with excitement as they captured stunning images of this little angel was immensely rewarding.

The Power of Connection

One of the most beautiful aspects of this session was the connection I felt with his mom. There’s something special about being trusted to capture such an intimate and precious time in someone’s life. It’s not just about the photos—it’s about the stories behind them, the relationships built, and the trust shared.

Her decision to bring her son to the workshop was a testament to the power of social media in building communities. She had followed my work for a while, resonating with my style and the care I put into every session. When the opportunity arose, she took the leap, and it resulted in a collaboration that brought joy to everyone involved.

Gratitude and Reflection

As I reflect on this experience, I’m filled with gratitude. It’s humbling to think that the images I create will become part of this family’s legacy, reminding them of a time when their little one was brand new to the world. Moments like these inspire me to keep growing, learning, and sharing my passion for photography.

Every newborn session is unique, but this one was particularly special. This sweet little boy and his mom reminded me of the incredible connections that photography fosters—between families, between photographers and clients, and even between colleagues in the industry.

Final Thoughts

To the sweet mom who brought her baby boy to my workshop, thank you. Your trust and support mean the world to me. To my fellow photographers, remember that behind every lens is an opportunity to capture not just an image, but a story filled with love, connection, and meaning. And to the families considering a newborn session, know that these fleeting moments are worth preserving—they grow up far too quickly!

Here’s to cherishing the tiny details, the quiet moments, and the beautiful stories that bring us all together.

Meet Baby Elyse: Heartwarming Savannah Newborn Photography

If you follow me closely, you already know that I become extremely obsessed with my newborn clients and their families. I consider myself extremely lucky when I am able to watch those families grow.

This family is one of those families. I met them when their twins were born and fresh out of the NICU almost a year ago. Those sweet girls came in with a story, being born at 25 weeks to a wonderful set of parents, whom were high school sweethearts.

They had such a journey trying to conceive their sweet girls, then such a journey with an early labor and NICU experience, but they went through the journey with so much grace and love.

No words can describe how excited I was when mom reached out to tell me that they were expecting again! I was over the moon!
